Futarasan Shrine has a garden which contains many small shrines, each for a differrnt purpose. There were a lot of kami (spirits) in the area, hence all the shrines.
I was immediately drawn to these large, tall trees. They were beautiful in the mist.
Because of Nikko's location in the mountains, and propensity towards dampness, there is a lot of moss covering things, like these lanterns. (I'm a big fan of lanterns, I want one for my front yard)
There were so many interesting little shrines inside. One of them had a ring toss game on the side, and if you got one of three tries, you would have luck in a particular area depending on the color. One girl in our group nailed luck in marriage on the first try. I tried but didn't get a single ring.
This dude is Tajimamori. I forgot why he's there but a Google search tells me he's the deity of confections, which explains why I was drawn to him, having a wicked sweet tooth.
A Torii gate is the indicator that you are about to enter a shrine.
After the tall trees, my favorite spot was this serene setting. The running water on the left is beauty water; drink some to obtain beauty.
People would write their wishes on white rocks to be left on these piles.
The gardens of Futurasan were very spiritual and peaceful and definitely my favorite part of the day.
