After lunch we walked towards part of the Old Tokaido Highway (more about that below) but passed some prettiness along the way.
That little building st the top is where we went on thr cable car
There's the cable car we rode
Cemetery statuary is always fascinating
The old Tokaido Highway was a road connecting Edo (now Tokyo) and Kyoto. There were checkpoints along the way to make sure travelers had the proper passes. It was also a way of ensuring no one, including Edo's women, escaped.
There is a museum about the checkpoint and information about who worked there and how the system operated.
Behind the museum was the lake. And supposedly Mt Fuji
The buildings of the checkpoint were reconstructed so one can walk through and see what it was like when it was a working checkpoint.
They don't suggest you don't go up, just that you be careful
Still don't see a mountain
These weren't at the checkpoint, but we're a brilliant purple
