Riding the rails to Nagasaki

Our best travel day yet was the ride to Nagasaki. Not only did we take a mere three trains, they were fast shinkansen (bullet) trains, but we were on each for at least an hour, often 2+, so we had time to sit and relax.

Hanging out inland, or even in a coastal town can still make one forget that Japan is a nation of many islands.

Our last train was the nicest, it had comfortable leather seats.

And finally we were in Nagasaki.

We were greeted by Mr. Tanaka, an atomic bomb survivor who had come to Philadelphia in the spring. He guided us on the trolley lines to our hotel.

Some trolleys were newer, like this, some less fancy (and smaller)

Cute looking area I sadly never got to explore

After settling in Mr. Tanaka led us to Chinatown for a delicious Chinese dinner.

Sorry, no food photos, I was too busy eating!
