I spent the morning in China

Well, sort of. Our first stop in Nagasaki was to Koshi-Byo, the only Confucian shrine in the world built outside China by Chinese hands. The land is Chinese territory and the rights are controlled by the Chinese embassy in Tokyo.

The colorful shrine stands out in the otherwise quiet neighborhood.

It was built in 1893 by Chinese residents of Nagasaki

Sadly, the buildings were severely damaged by the atomic bomb and were not restored and opened to the public again until 1967.

A lot of restoration work was undertaken in 1982, using materials from China.
