Miyajima's Torii gate at sunset and at night

While the ferry runs until 10pm, most tourists who day trip to Miyajima Island never get to see the Torii gate during sunset or at night. Since we stayed over, we were able to view both. It worked out perfectly. We had a cup of coffee then watched the sun go down, wandered the island,  had dinner, the  walked back past it in the dark.

If you want more info about this structure, you can read http://visit-miyajima-japan.com/en/culture-and-heritage/spiritual-heritage-temples-shrines/le-torii-flottant.html

Nighttime photos first, since there are fewer photos. A tripod would have been nice. I used some of the stone lanterns but the angles weren't right.

And now too many sunset photos. If you haven't figured it out by now, I am horrible at narrowing down the photos I post. I see some thing different in each one. Let me know if you, whoever is reading this, would prefer more words and fewer photos.

  1. Gorgeous photos! I particularly love the nighttime photos of the Torii gate with the moonlight reflecting in the water.
